Man having a maskOur beautician course offers you complete beautician training, including manicure, facials, make-up and waxing, through the Certificate in Aesthetics (Facial Therapy). Learn manicure, pedicure, facials, make-up, waxing, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, and facial electrical treatments: the core of beauty therapy. After your beautician training, you can opt to continue to Physiatrics and Electrology courses to become a fully-qualified beauty therapist.

This course was formerly known as Beautician (Aestheticienne) Certificate.

This is a part-time course only.

This course equals 42% of the Diploma in Beauty Therapy.

You would also need to take the Certificate in Physiatrics and Certificate in Electrology to gain the Diploma in Beauty Therapy.

This course is not offered in 2010.

The Tertiary Education Commission will not fund this course in 2010.

  • The Certificate in Aesthetics (Facial Therapy) deals solely with the facial therapy side of beauty therapy, which is the core part of our industry.
  • This course is the way to complete the Diploma in Beauty Therapy and Applied Aesthetics on a part-time basis, with a total of 50 credits towards that diploma, and a good way to "get your foot in the door" in the beauty therapy industry.
  • Graduates successfully completing this course become a fully-qualified Beautician as recognised in New Zealand and most countries throughout the world.
  • It is highly suggested, to improve employment prospects, for the graduate to complete either the Certificate in Physiatrics and/or the Certificate in Electrology.
  • In order to work on a cruise ship, you are required to hold both a Certificate in Aesthetics and a Certificate in Physiatrics.
  • It is important to note that any beautician course you are looking at undertaking complies with the following:
    • It is at least 50 credits in total; and
    • You undertake supervised practical training (required for employment); and
    • It includes all the subjects as we have listed below, including electrical machinery; and
    • It is NZQA-Approved and approved by ITEC, CIBTAC, and/or CIDESCO; and
    • It is recognised by the industry.

This course is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989, and the National School of Aesthetics is accredited to teach it.

The Certificate in Aesthetics (Facial Therapy) gives the student who successfully completes and graduates the course a total of 50 credits towards the Diploma in Beauty Therapy and Applied Aesthetics (120 credits).

This course does not qualify a student as a fully-qualified Beauty Therapist upon completion. The student would need to complete all three courses listed above to be considered a fully-qualified Beauty Therapist in New Zealand and most countries around the world.
